Apply to Attend

The Institute is open to ALL undergraduate students of ANY major / discipline who have:

• completed 30 credit hours and a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0  or
• who are nominated by a faculty member

All students who meet these requirements are encouraged to apply.

We encourage faculty members from ALL disciplines to nominate qualified students by simply submitting the students’ names and contact information to Dr. Leigh Clark via email (la.clark@mtsu.edu) using the subject line “ILE Nomination”. Nominated students will then receive an invitation to apply to the Institute.

Faculty nominations are due by December 6th.

Student applications are due by January 31st.

The application consists of a 250-300 word essay describing what you believe you can contribute to the success of the Institute. Be sure to include valid contact information with your essay. In keeping with the interdisciplinary focus of the Institute, applications will be reviewed with the goal of maximizing the diversity of the class, and accepted students will be notified by email February 17th.

To provide the best possible experience for those who attend, enrollment for the Institute is limited. If you meet credit hour and GPA requirements, or if you have been nominated and received an invitation as a result, please submit your application essay in any one of the following ways:
